As a graduate at Moby Architecture & Interiors, a small architectural firm located in Creswick, my days are filled with variety. I often work on multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring that all background work is up to date and running smoothly. This has provided me with the opportunity to gain experience and balance a wide range of tasks.

Being a female in a male-dominated industry presents its own set of challenges. I feel that in my experience, my desire to learn by being immersed in the construction process and asking questions, I have experienced support by builders, trades and consultants in the industry who have shown a willingness to teach and guide my development. This has allowed me to further develop my knowledge and experience through their expertise.

One of the biggest challenges I face is learning how to work efficiently and prioritize tasks. Architecture requires holistic thinking and the ability to judge priorities is crucial. Passion is key in this field; sitting in front of the computer for long hours, I must be engaged to ensure I get the job done efficiently. It was also a challenge to learn a different way from when I was studying, with programs requiring different typologies, balancing client interactions, and ensuring the workflow is completed in a timely manner.

Architecture is a unique and challenging field that combines creativity with technical knowledge. As a graduate, I have the opportunity to design buildings and spaces that are both beautiful and functional while positively impacting the environment and its users.

The field of architecture is diverse, with many areas of specialization and opportunities for career growth. In addition to the intellectual and creative challenges, architecture can be incredibly rewarding. Seeing your designs come to life and knowing that your work is making a positive impact on the world is fulfilling.
